Applicants whose native language is not English and who do not hold a post-secondary degree at the bachelor's level or higher from a regionally-accredited domestic college or university must demonstrate a sufficient level of English language proficiency by examination. The ECE Department accepts valid test scores from both the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam as demonstration of English language proficiency. The ECE Department does not have a hard minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) total score threshold for admission. The department considers applications for the graduate degree programs it administers purely on the basis of academic merit, as evidenced by the information contained in a complete application package, not purely on the basis of any individual performance indicator. Generally, successful candidates will have earned a total score of 92 or higher on the TOEFL iBT or 560 or higher on the TOEFL PBT. Please be aware that scores are evaluated not only on the basis of total scores but also with consideration for individual section scores.

The GRE General Test is required of all applicants seeking to enter the doctoral program as well as those applicants seeking to enter one of the MS programs with the intent to pursue studies on a full-time basis. The ECE Department does not have a hard minimum GRE threshold for admission. Generally, successful candidates will have a combined verbal and quantitative score of _number:300 or higher and an analytical writing score of 3.5 or higher.
