Research degree stipends fulfill a 0.40-0.50 FTE commitment and currently pay $20,000-$30,000 annually in WEC, but alternative assistantship structures and salaries are sometimes possible, depending on the source of funding. Some appointments require teaching or other duties, and this will be made clear in your letter of offer. Most offers will stipulate a minimum of 2 years funding for MS students and 4 years funding for PhD students. A limited number of additional assistantships are awarded beyond an original appointment, generally to support only one or two semesters, enabling a student to complete a degree or to meet special teaching needs in the department.
