A National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project has one research assistantship (RA) position for a qualified student who will pursue a Ph.D. degree in either Electrical and Computer (EC) or Computational Science (CS) at the San Diego State University (SDSU) in Fall 2020 semester. While EC is a joint Ph.D. program between SDSU and University of California-San Diego (UCSD), CS is a joint Ph.D. program between SDSU and University of California-Irvine (UCI). The goal of the project is to develop an array of new techniques for emerging non-volatile memory technologies. The research assistantship will start in the August 2020.
Detailed Information:
·SDSU and UCSD are located in the same city San Diego. If you choose the EC program, please refer to https://www.engineering.sdsu.edu/admissions/jointdoc_electriccomp.aspx for more information. Your diploma will be stamped by both SDSU and UCSD.
·UCI is located in Irvine, which is about 80-minute driving from San Diego. Your diploma will be stamped by both SDSU and UC Irvine. Although your degree will be in Computational Science, your research is computer science and your publication will be in computer science too. If you choose computational science, please refer to http://www.csrc.sdsu.edu/doctoral.html .
·We only accept Ph.D. students in Fall semesters.
So far all Ph.D. students graduated from Dr. Xie’s CASL (Computer Architecture and System Lab) joined leading IT companies (e.g., SanDisk, NetApp, Western Digital, AMD, etc.) in Silicon Valley right after their graduation.

Basic Requirements:
1. A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related areas
2. A solid background in operating systems (Linux/Unix)
3. Programming skills in C/C++
4. TOEFL score should be at least 80
5. GRE (general) is required
6. Undergraduate GPA (Grade Point Average) should be at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
7.Preference will be given to students with a Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related fields.
