PhD直招介绍
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research? To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required. The research group Peter Svensson’s research group is looking for a Doctoral student to work in chromatin biology, centered around the HIV-1 provirus. The group focuses on understanding how non-self DNA sequences, such as the integrated HIV-1 genome, is controlled by interactions between host and viral mechanisms. Infection by HIV-1 establishes a persistent reservoir of infected cells. This reservoir is initially heterogenous, but during antiviral therapy, it takes on a mainly latent state and becomes increasingly individual over time. With new treatment modalities, we seek to modify the reservoir as to improve clinical outcome and eventually cure HIV. We use and develop advanced technologies that rely on single molecule high fidelity sequencing, imaging and flow cytometry. The goal is to develop alternatives to today’s antiviral treatments and eventually pave the way for an HIV cure. As a member of the group, you will become a part of the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Department of Medicine Huddinge at the Karolinska Institutet. The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student The project focuses on studying the composition and dynamics of the HIV-1 reservoir in primary cells and cells directly isolated from HIV-1+ study participants. The goal in to identify molecular mechanisms that control the HIV-1 provirus. The doctoral student will work to identify integration sites of intact and defective proviruses and study the activation of individual latent cells to understand the impact of chromatin structures on proviral latency reversal. The project involves using advanced cell and molecular biology techniques, single-molecule sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis. The student will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the development and assessment of new treatment modalities aimed at improving clinical outcomes and potentially curing HIV. What do we offer? A creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities.
